Kwik Trip to open 800th store

In 2013, Kwik Trip celebrated the opening of its 400th store in Chisago City, Minn. Just eight years later, Kwik Trip has doubled that number with the grand opening of its 800th store in Holmen, Wis.

Located at the convenient crossroads interchange of Highways 53 and 35, 1760 Temte St., the doors opened at 5 am on December 30th. An open house event is scheduled for January 5th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 am.

The newest Kwik Trip is known as a Generation 3 store, incorporating the latest design using softer colors. It is about 9000 sq. ft. in size, and features a car wash and a side diesel canopy for easier access. The diesel canopy will have a non-ethanol fuel station for boats, campers and folks pulling trailers. Inside, guests will be treated to a small grocery market experience with food varieties delivered fresh daily.

“We’re thrilled to reach the 800 store mark, and about doubling our total number of stores in less than a decade,” said Dax Connely, Real Estate Manager at Kwik Trip. “To be able to do so with a Gen 3 store, featuring all the best amenities that our company has to offer, makes it even more special.”

A family-owned company headquartered in La Crosse WI, Kwik Trip is one of the largest independently-held convenience store chains in the United States. Today, Kwik Trip employs more than 32,000 coworkers. Kwik Trip has annually been named a “Top Workplace” by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wisconsin State Journal, Minneapolis Star Tribune and Des Moines Register.

As a privately-owned company, one of the many employee benefits at Kwik Trip is the commitment to share 40% of the company’s pre-tax profits with its coworkers. Kwik Trip continues to grow through its strong focus on food, value-priced commodities, clean facilities and outstanding customer service.

Six KT products honored at World Dairy Expo

Six different Kwik Trip dairy products were recognized as being among the best in class at the 2021 World Dairy Expo Dairy Product Championships, held in Madison in late August.

The Expo is hosted by the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association and featured over 1,400 entries across 90 different categories. Each product sampled is scored out of 100.

Kwik Trip dairy director Jeremy Nickelotti and senior production manager Kyle Schild pose with the six Kwik Trip products honored at August’s World Dairy Expo.

Out of the many products entered and sampled, Kwik Trip’s Nature’s Touch strawberry milk came away with the top overall ranking, with a score of 99.9 in the strawberry milk category.

Alongside that, Kwik Trip’s low-fat chocolate milk placed third in the Low-Fat Chocolate Milk category, with a score of 99.8.

Both of Kwik Trip’s Greek frozen yogurt options, blueberry and black raspberry, placed in the Frozen Yogurt category. Blueberry placed second, with black raspberry right behind as a close third, with scores of 98.4 and 98.3, respectively.

In the Half & Half category, Kwik Trip’s half & half creamer placed second, with a score of 99.35.

Lastly, placing second in the Creative/Innovative product category is Kwik Trip’s salted caramel cappuccino.

Since there are no other national contests that feature all dairy products, the World Dairy Expo is one of its kind.

It’s a very unique contest. It’s the only one of its kind in the world,” Brad Legreid, executive director of the WDPA, told Spectrum News1. “There’s no other contest involved all dairy products. So we run the full spectrum from cheese, butter, ice cream, food, milk, yogurt, sour cream, whey—you name it.”

Kyle Schild, Kwik Trip’s Senior Production Manager in the dairy, said that the company is proud to have been honored in such a wide range of products.

“We’re excited to have placed in six different categories,” said Schild. “We feel it is a testament to our coworkers and the products they produce every day for our guests.”

Surprise Car Wash Engagement

As the confetti was still falling at the Fiserv Forum in the wake of the Milwaukee Bucks winning their first championship in 50 years, two Wisconsinsites decided that it wasn’t going to just be the basketball team that received a ring this year.

The only difference for Erick Frey and Julia Framstad is that theirs would be coming in a Kwik Trip car wash.

Erick and Julia met while he was home on leave from being stationed in Texas for the military, and he said they’ve always been open about the engagement and proposal with a goal to make it happen within a certain time frame.

Not being the type to do a proposal in front of a bunch of people and seeking a more private moment, Erick said that the couple’s second date location became part of the plan.

He said Julia took him to Store 580’s car wash on their second date, and it became a special spot for the couple.

On the night of July 21st, as the Bucks were still celebrating, the couple drove to the Racine Kwik Trip late that night in hopes to be engaged that same day.

“We entered the car wash not engaged, and we left engaged,” Julia said.

As Kwik Trip now seems to be a pinpoint of their relationship, we were curious if Erick and Julia would be including us on their wedding day… to which they agreed Glazers at the reception would make the most sense.

Congratulations to Erick and Julia!

A Kwik Approach to Fresh Fruit and Veggies

One of the newer initiatives that the Kwik Trip Kitchens has undertaken in 2021 has been packaging fresh fruit for our stores, creating a more direct process that allows our Kitchens to have a better control of quality and freshness.

The initial offerings started with cups of pineapple, grapes, watermelon and cantaloupe, and will soon expand to include cups with combined pineapple and strawberries as well as another cup with strawberries, blueberries and kiwi. Later this spring, the Kitchens will start packaging 16-ounce fruit trays, 12-ounce and 6-ounce veggie trays of cauliflower, broccoli and carrots, as well as carrots and dip and another with apples and caramel. The production facility is currently producing approximately 15,000 units per day!

According to Brad Clarkin, production operations director at Kwik Trip, this endeavor is all about fresh, quality products.

“Kwik Trip is placing more emphasis on selling better-for-you products within our stores, as an effective way to continue to grow sales, increase profitability and offer our guests fresh product, at a great value,” said Clarkin.

These excellent offerings are prepared in the new addition of the Kitchens that came on-line last fall, in the same facility where our Take Home Meals and pizzas are produced. It continues to add to our commitment of delivering what guests want, with the freshest possible products at reasonable prices.
