It’s hard to narrow down all of the historic events that happened in 1994, from the introduction of the World Wide Web, the Major League Baseball strike, earthquakes rock California, the Olympics, World Cup, the Lion King, Friends and ER debut on TV… the list goes on and on. For us, 1994 was a historic year, as we first introduced our own credit card, Kwik Card.
When Kwik Card was released in 1994, there were only two types: consumer and business. They were one in the same with no Kwik Rewards, but there was a rebate program when you used the Kwik Card. You would receive your 10% discount in the form of a rebate check that you in turn could use at Kwik Trip for all your gas and grocery needs (and no, there was no Hot Spot in 1994). The Credit Department would hand stuff statements for both consumer and business cards and every paper application received was hand keyed and manually underwritten and approved. We have come a long way!
In 1994, Kwik Trip employed 3,083 co-workers and 250 stores. Today, Kwik Trip employs over 39,000 co-workers and has over 850 stores throughout 6 states! Also, the national average gas price in 1994 was $1.11. Doesn’t that feel like yesterday?! Never-the-less, you can see how much Kwik Trip has grown in 30 years, and we could not have done it without guests like YOU!
As part of the celebration, we’re having specials throughout the month of June, including a one-time 30 cents per gallon fuel discount for all Kwik Rewards Plus card members. We’re also giving away an awesome canoe from Redfeather Outdoors, and you can earn one entry when purchasing fuel with Kwik Rewards+, or two entries when purchasing in-store!
It’s been a crazy ride of growth and success for Kwik Trip and the Kwik Card these last thirty years, and we could not have achieved this without the dedication of our coworkers and guests. Thank you to those who were a part of the launch of Kwik Card and thank you to those who are still a part of its journey!
